Round 7 - Donington Park GP - 9th September 2018
The returning Jason McInulty crossed the finish line only by 0:08 of a second ahead of Joe Taylor to take a nail-biting victory. John LaMaster lead from the start line after his perfect Qualifying pole and positions at the front between LaMaster, McInulty and Taylor swapped numerous times. There was really nothing in it between the front 3 but, a late dive by McInulty on the final corner meant it was a drag race finish to the line.
Oliver Crease could not manage to get on the podium this time around after his stonking performance in qualifying and the absent Craig Denman had a DNF due to a broken toe link. Mackenzie Walker, Mark Richardson, David Alexander, Simon Oakley, Jon Atherton and new driver Mark Bithrey rounded out the top 10 with fine performances on the 19 car strong grid.
It was another tantalising battle up front between Taylor and McInulty with this year's rookie Joe Taylor taking a faultless clean victory after leading for most of the race. Jason McInulty was excluded from the results due to a technical infringement meaning Mckenzie Walker took 2nd and John LaMaster 3rd. Craig Denman managed to fight his way through the pack from the back of the grid to take 4th but an unfortunate crash in the craner curves meant Oliver Crease day was over. Luckily after a quick check with the medics, the driver was ok.
The top 10 was rounded out by Mark Richardson, David Alexander, Simon Oakley, Ade Wootton who put on another solid consistent performance, Jon Atherton and the returning Christopher Perkins.
Race 3 always provides for some spectacular racing with a reverse top 10 grid based on the results from the previous race. It was Craig Denman who fought through the pack quickest to cross the line in 1st, John LaMaster in 2nd and Joe Taylor in 3rd however it was a controversial end to the day as Denman and LaMaster were handed 5 second time penalties for exceeding track limits despite the start-finish straight warnings.
Ade Wooton put on a solid consistent performance to finish 8th for the second time and the returning Barry Strong made 2 places to round out the top 10.
Congratulations to Craig Denman who took the title on this final race before going into the final round. Rookie Joe Taylor takes 2nd in the championship and it'll be a final shootout for the 3rd place in the final round.
