2017 rookie Chris Thirkettle has now committed to a full season in the 2018 Elise Trophy Championship in his Elise S2 K Series.

Chris competed in only 7 of the 8 rounds in 2017 and despite a very clear indication Chris definately had pace on track, he was often let down with mechanical gremlins which he hopes to get the better of this year.

We sat down with Chris to see what he had to say about the 2018 championship.

"I'm really looking forward to get going this year. Last year was really a whirlwind for me and I've learnt an awful lot about racing and car preperation that I never knew before"

When did you start racing?
My first race entry was in March 2017 in the Elise Trophy Championship and was completely un prepared only getting my car a couple of weeks earlier. I competed in the whole 2017 Lotus Elise Trophy Championship but unfortunately wasn’t able to make it to Oulton Park.

What is it you enjoy about racing?
I love the feeling of being in control and on the limit. Being able to compete with other drivers at a very competitive level spurs me on to constantly improve my own abilities to be the fastest on track that I can.

What car / team are you racing for this season?
I'll be racing in my own Elise S2 K Series. Whilst largely I'll be looking after my own car, I'll also be supported by the guys at SO Motorsport.

What are your ambitions for this season?
To have a well prepped car for every single round and a good setup. Overall I want to aim to be in the top 10 every round and to do this I need to ensure that I encounter fewer mechanical gremlins this year.

What advice would you give to people wanting to start racing?
Always be aware of what’s happening around you. When you line up on that grid with 20+ other cars around you, it'll soon feel daunting and you need to keep your cool.

Do you want to mention / thank any sponsors or partners?
Unfortunately I don’t have any sponsors this year but I’d like to thank Simon Oakley and the team at SO Motorsport for the help I’ve had from them so far and also a mention to my family and friends that are always there to support me.
